Big Futures Show

A brilliant day attending the Big Futures Show in Eastbourne, which was truly inspiring to see such a strong turnout of students excited about Landscape Architecture!

The Big Futures Show is the largest employability and skills event in East Sussex, attended by hundreds of students, with their tutors and parents. This was a great opportunity to inspire the younger generation and promote our valuable and rewarding profession of Landscape Architecture, representing the Landscape Institute and the Landscape Institute South East Branch.

Promoting landscape architecture to the younger generation is crucial for reasons as listed below:

  1. Environmental Awareness: It helps instill a deeper understanding of sustainable design, environmental stewardship, and the importance of green spaces in urban planning.

  2. Career Opportunities: Introducing landscape architecture early opens up interest in a creative, impactful, and often overlooked career path that combines art, science, creativity, nature protection, urban design and social responsibility.

  3. Future-Proofing Cities: Young people engaged in this field are better equipped to address future challenges like climate change, urbanization, and biodiversity loss through thoughtful, innovative design.

  4. Community Engagement: It fosters a sense of responsibility and connection to local and global communities by involving youth in shaping the environments they live in.

  5. Diverse Perspectives: Encouraging a broader, more diverse generation to enter the profession brings fresh ideas, cultural insight, and inclusive solutions to the table.
