The rogue rhododendron

Many people are unaware of how damaging Rhododendron ponticum is to woodlands and our native plant life. Outcompeting our native woodland flora, it carries a damaging tree disease and although pretty, is one of the largest threats to temperate rainforest habitat.

They are also poisonous to livestock and casts such dense shade that nothing else will grow near it.

If you’re planting Rhododendron, please double check when buying that it’s not the ponticum species as it can spread from your garden into local natural spaces.

Thanks for reading, any questions, we would love to hear from you!
